Carla, a high school literature teacher, raises hens in his spare time, and tries to teach them to fly. Tanni, who sits the front row of one of his classes, catches his attention, and gradually a friendship forms between them. Tanni's family is falling apart. Her mother ran away, and because her father works all day, he expects Tanni to take care of her little brother, so Tanni often misses school. Sometimes, when she is absent, she leaves a note in Carla's yard.
