The Cleveland Light Artillery was a 3-month unit from April to July 1861. When they were mustered out in July many of the men joined the First Ohio Light Artillery for another 3-year term. However, due to the need to go immediately into action, they were never actually mustered in! It took until 1903 for those men to be legally recognized as having served in the Union Army, thus allowing them to receive discharges.
