Convicts, con-men, newlyweds, immigrants, philosophers, crossdressers, drifters - a young Chicago native known as Keltnor meets them all as he leaves his hometown for a journey of adventure and self discovery in the rapidly declining American landscape of the Great Depression. Keltnor hops on the back of a freight train and heads out into the heartland. As he makes his way to the west coast, he meets an eclectic assortment of people who each add something to his journey. He peeks into the worlds of everyday Americans, and learns that seemingly humdrum lives often contain strange and intriguing secrets.
