the long version

The inner jacket flap reads thus: > All of the pieces in this distinguished collection are linked with Canada. Many of the selections deal with Canadian locales and people. In others the only link with Canada is the author's nationality. There are twenty-six pieces in all: two complete novels, *Jalna* by Mazo de la Roche and *Barometer Rising* by Hugh MacLennan; selections cosen from full-lenght books such as *The Sixth of June* by Lionel Shairo and *The White and the Gold* by Thomas B. Costain, as well as shorth pieces by such writers as Stephan Leacock, Lord Beaverbrook, Gabrielle Roy, Thomas H. Raddall, and many others. The collection has elements which will appeal to every reading taste. The variety is great: there is gentleness in Marjorie Pickethall's "A Worker in Sandalwood"; wartime tension in "Dieppe" by Lionel Shapiro; insight and warmth in a selection from Bruce Hutchison's biography of Mackenzie King. Each selection reveals the high quality of work done by Canadian writers and is worthy of admiration by both Canadian and American audiences.
