Lady Rosaline escapes her cousin who is determined to take over her substantial inheritance for himself. On the stormy night of her flight she takes shelter on the moors with a mysterious man who she fears has been sent to find her. Running away from him the next morning, she manages to join a troupe of actors incognito. But she meets the mysterious man again when she is invited to the estate of a lord who is a theater aficionado.
