Encyclopedia of contemporary British culture

the long version

"The Encyclopedia of Contemporary British Culture surveys British cultural practice in the latter half of the twentieth century. Some 1,000 alphabetically arranged entries provide insights into a culture which is dynamic, eclectic and in a constant state of flux. A comprehensive system of cross-referencing and a thematic contents list help the reader to identify entries from particular fields. Entries range from shorter, biographical synopses of the careers of key individuals to longer overview essays which explore the main issues within contemporary cultural debates. Culture is defined in its broadest sense and areas covered include architecture, consumerism, education, ethnicity and belief, fashion and design, film and cinema, gender and family, intellectual life, literature, media, music, performing arts, politics and society, recreation, sport, video and television, visual arts, and youth culture."--Jacket.
