Dr. Premlata Chaswal's (Casavala) first book, "Darpan (दर्पण)", was published in 1986. It is a khand kaavya (खंड काव्य) - i.e., a collection of poems on a single theme. In this book, Dr. Chaswal tried to capture significant events relating to the Indian Freedom Struggle. 33 poems in this collection are victory songs of Indian men and women as they came together awakened and passionate towards one cause: Their Freedom. These poems highlight the instances of Jawahar's return to india, Ghandhi's anouncing practice of law in SA, his invoking indian conscious by Satyagrah and Daandi march, Collective contribution of women in cry for freedom - Sarojini Naidu, Kasturba Gandhi, Annie Besant, Kamala Nehru, Rani Lakshmi Bai, and poems narrating stories about Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Gopalakrishna Gokhale, Subhash Chandra Bose, Lala Lajpat Rai, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru. This book is dedicated to the heroes of the Indian Freedom Struggle who sacrificed everything for their country so that the future of coming generations could be secure.
