the long version
The author tells the story of Martin Luther's life,1483-1546, expressed as diaries of those who knew him. It traces his early life, his work as a reformer, educator, and his most important legacy, translating the Bible into German. Of course, this is an historical novel, but the letters of Luther and other reformers quoted here are verified writings of the historical persons. It has been reprinted several times, even as recently as 2009. I have enjoyed reading it more than once over the past 50 years.
