the long version

Concerned consumers and industry operators alike are reassessing the impact of an industry seemingly so dependent on the attractions of our natural environment, and questioning the sustainability of many existing practices. Sustainable Tourism examines a range of Australian best practice cases that demonstrate what can be done to meet the need for a more sustainable tourism industry. Included in this exciting new publication are discussions of the concept of sustainable tourism and the role of industry and government bodies in this area. Three major issues the editors have examined are environmentally sensitive building and infrastructure design; integrated management systems controlling operational impacts; and the enhancement of the physical environment through operational activities. Amongst the cases examined are the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, Namadgi National Park (Australian Capital Territory), Earth Sanctuaries (South Australia), Seven Spirit Bay (Northern Territory), Kingfisher Bay Resort (Queensland), the Eco-tourism Association, and the Pacific Asia Travel Association.
