the long version
Carlo Claudio Camillo Guarmani the second European to penetrate the Great Nufud Desert and the first truly qualified equestrian to arrive to the Najd region. The Italian's `itinerary' contains an extremely worthwhile fountain of information about the often-mentioned Najd horse. He relates his intrepid 1864 journey to the horse-breeding oases of Haïl and Anaiza with great skill and draws his reader into the exotic realm of the Wahhabis, far better than W.G. Palgrave, who traveled to Arabia's central plateau the year before. His sagacious and finely honed observations, provide the reader with a crystal-clear assessment about the scorching crucible of the breed's origins. Derived from Major-Gen. Tweedie's 1888 translation. The book is Introduced and Annotated by Andrew K. Steen, Breed Historian and Author.
