the long version

A Dire Charade To save her village from utter ruin, sporting-mad Kate Draycott set out to wed the wealthy poet, Lord Ashwell. In order to win him, the country spitfire masked her earthly nature with a patina of refinement. However, she was not prepared for Ashwell's infuriating companion, Mr. Buckland. That handsome devil had seen her riding in the hunt in all her rustic glory, and had stolen a kiss in the woods -- and would not let her forget it. Hot-tempered Kate vowed the handsome cur would not upset her marital stratagem. But the lady would soon discover that nothing was quite what it seemed to be. A Playful Disguise Lord Ashwell had come to investigate the cloth mill he'd inherited. Thinking it wisest to travel incognito, he assumed the identity of on Mr. Buckland whilst a friend played Ashwell. Wary of fortune hunters, and a rogue at heart, Backland-Ashwell taunted Kate to a faretheewell...until Cupid beat him at his own game...
