This is the story of one of the two major American political parties -- the Republican Party. The main emphasis of this book is what Republicans have believed during their one hundred-year-plus political heritage. Naturally, the party platform for 1860 differed substantially from that of 1960, as does the 1968 platform differ from that of 1960. Beginning with the campaign of 1860, the Republican Party took its place as one of the two major American political parties. From that year to the present campaign of 1968, the story of what Republicans have believed provides a chronicle in the annals of American political history.
