A story of the period between June 1941 and October, 1944 when Latvia became the battleground between two world powers. Davids, a young farm boy, is tortured by the Russian Secret Police to force him to betray his father, then to assume responsibility for caring for his family and directing the work on the farm. More than a dramatic tale of wartime occupation, it is the story of courage and loyalty, of love and friendship, and of the strength and resiliency of the human spirit.
