All students of Spanish literature read some of Gongora's poems. No Spanish poet is greater or more rewarding, but few are as difficult for the beginner. Many a student has tripped and given up at the second or third hurdle. It would be too much to say that at last Professor Jones has made Gongora easy; but he has certainly made him more accessible.
