León Ferrari and Mira Schendel are among the most significant Latin American artists of the 20th century. Active during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s in the neighbouring countries of Argentina and Brazil, they found inspiration in the written word and in the eloquence of spoken language. Their striking visual production coincided with a period of significant focus on language by philosophers and artists.
