Certainly Joanna wasn't foolish enough to believe that Jack still loved her after she married his cousin. And though she was now a widow, Jack's eyes glittered with contempt, accusing her of betrayal. As the Dowager Lady Welbourne, she would sadly become just another estate problem for Jack to confront as new lord of the manor. A truce seemed impossible, for his nearness brought the past too close for comfort.
