Japanese Linked Poetry

Linking the court poetry of the classical period and the <i>haiku</i> poetry of the modern period, the <i>renga</i> and <i>haikai</i> which constitute Japanese linked poetry are important in Japanese literature. The first half of this book presents linked poetry's principles and its placement in the history of Japanese literature as well as the context of world literature. The second analizes of two <i>renga</i> sequences involving S&#333;gi and four <i>haikai</i> sequences, three of which involve Bash&#333;, and the fourth, Buson. (from back cover copy)
