Fear not the Shallow Man,/For all that is lost is one night. Such is the credo of Nick Laws, the suave hand model and party promoter who lives on the other side of the velvet ropes. He knows the agencies where Thing works, the buildings where she lives, and the clubs where she parties. His is a prowler's life, and his art is spontaneity. Nick's world is an exclusive but fascinating arena populated by Bookers, Dromes, Donuts, Civilians, Snappers, 4B Girls, Guy, and, of course, Thing - a world of fast-food romance, delicious sex, vicious grunge rock, and mind-boggling glamour. There's a drug involved, too, and it's called hotness. It's Nick Laws's obsession, and he's not in denial about it. The Shallow Man is his confession.
