The founder of the business, Antonio Gardano, published nearly 500 music books before his death in 1569; yet over the course of the following four decades, Angelo and Alessandro published nearly 1,000. The original archival and bibliographic research included in this book provides a foundation for the examination of the conditions that shaped the family's production and distribution of its vast list of titles.
