Diez personas son invitadas por carta a pasar unos dias en una isla paradisiaca, y cuando llegan a la mansion donde se hospedaran, escuchan una voz en off que les dice que cada uno morira para purgar el crimen que ha cometido. A partir de alli, empiezan a ser asesinados misteriosamente, y van muriendo del mismo modo que reza una vieja cancion: "Diez negritos se fueron a cenar. Uno de ellos se asfixio y quedaron nueve. Nueve negritos trasnocharon mucho. Uno de ellos no se pudo despertar y quedaron ocho..."
