Zimbabwe is one of the most recent countries in Africa to gain its independence. This volume traces the history of Harare, the capital and largest city, from its colonial origins, through periods of settler rule and the transition to independence, to the present day, and illustrates how the built environment of the city reflected and embodied the urban policies and economy of a settler-colonialist state.
