Of course it had been a dreadful shock for Appley when Andre Gerrard jilted her, actually on her wedding day - but perhaps it was a little unreasonable of her to develop such a hatred of Leo Randall, whose thankless task it had been to break the news to her. Perhaps, though, it had subconsciously been a case of self-protection on Appley's part — for not only was Leo a sensationally attractive man, but he did also happen to be married.
