Double Caution Totem (Double Caution Totem)

Over the years, Lewis Koch has explored themes of personal and political mythology with his photography and installations. Here, the artist translates three assemblages from his Totem series (1986-95) into book form-- *Book One/ Double Caution Totem*; *Book Two/ Surplus Koan Totem*; and *Book Three/ Slender Thread Totem*. Addressing issues such as the human urge to subjugate nature (Book 1), rampant militarism and overpopulation (2), and the tenuousness of the current social fabric (3), these latter-day totems are both an invocation and an invective.
