Sobre o livro

"Contributed by leading scholars in technology and innovation, this volume presents ten original essays and four commentaries that discuss how newly industrializing economies (NIEs), particularly those in East Asia, have transformed themselves over the past thirty years from technologically backward and poor to relatively modern and affluent economies. They provide interesting theoretical perspectives and the insightful understanding of the process of technological progress in these economies at both the macro and micro levels. The essays discuss how firms, particularly those in electronics and automobiles, have dynamically accumulated technological capabilities at the micro level and how public policies have shaped the process of technological progress at the national level, and they discuss what problems some of these countries face today at both levels. In addition, the volume provides a comparative picture of East Asian NIEs with Latin American counterparts. The discussion also offers useful lessons for policies in other developing countries. The volume is an important contribution to a debate that is of interest to academics as well as professionals in the policy field."--Jacket.
