"Time of fracture" is the result of well-documented research by Rita Eder on changes in the Museum of Modern Art (MAM) of Mexico under the direction of Helen Escobedo between 1982 and 1984. The review took place on the eve of democratization efforts in the political system and the crisis of the Mexican cultural historical development, conducted by the advanced cultural institutions, their vocations, and their relationship with audiences in new historical conditions. Rethinking Mexican cultural modernity meant, among other things, restating the rooms of the permanent collection, to recognize the artistic diversity of the country and, as noted by Néstor García Canclini, to make the historical movements of the twentieth century coexist with groups of young people who refuted previous modes of representing the sensitive political history of the country.
