Mile 46 unveils the intimate lives of a traditional Maasai family through the revealing photographs and journal entries of a young American woman who lived with them in a dung hut on the rugged outskirts of Kenya in 1988. More than a quarter of a century later, that same woman revisits the journals she wrote and the photographs she took and connects her young voice with her twenty-first century worldview. Poignant, revealing, optimistic, and thought-provoking, Mile 46 presents the contrasts and similarities between a disenfranchised African family and their American guest, and makes a case for cultural exchange, understanding, and personal diplomacy.
