the long version

Erskine covers all aspects of, as he calls it, Highland or Celtic dress; indeed, this book is quite different from anything else published up to that time and, I might add, there is very little similar to it, save my own treatise, All About Your Kilt. Erskine examines the practicality of the kilt, and of Highland dress in general, stripping away all the rules which had been placed by the "rule makers." Rather, he suggests that those wearing the kilt do so according to their own taste and not simply follow the fashions, as it were, especially those fashions dictated by the kilt shops. He stresses the functionality of the kilt for everyday wear and emphasizes the sheer pleasure of wearing such dress. As a retired kiltmaker with twenty-two years of experience, and as a kilt historian for almost as long a time, I find myself in complete agreement with Erskine regarding "the kilt and how to wear it." My disagreement is with the historical aspects of the kilt as he has seen it, and these differences I have highlighted in bold type annotated throughout the text. I have as well further underlined those conclusions, opinions, and the like which I feel should be taken quite seriously, especially today. Of course, that which I have highlighted I strongly support. - Foreword / Bob Martin.
