Black wolf fever, a virulent and incurable disease dormant for centuries, is on the rise and appears to be spread by a pack of savage, wolf-like dogs. Van, a slave in the salt mines is attacked and contracts the disease as does Yuna a young girl he comes to care for. They become the sole survivors.
