John Sennett had lived in Napier for three years. During that time he had acquired the hotel, a third of the stageline, and the town's largest general store. He also owned a small ranch at the edge of the valley that included Anvil Pass. Around his ranch, a range war was gaining intensity. Day and night, raiders spread death and destruction across the peaceful valley. At their head rode Old Man Hatty, twisted with hate and greed, fanning the flames of violence. Hatty was out to make the whole valley his empire. While other ranchers fell to Hatty's devices, John Sennett alone refused to give in, for he knew the price he'd have to pay for peace -- his land, his honor, his life.
