Lydia's Aunt Mattie goes on a cruise with her friend Joel and asks Lydia to run her guesthouse near Ullswater. But Joel's nephew Luke Carstairs is also there to help and Lydia resents his interference. She also resents his interest in her family history and his reticence to talk about his own background.
