Sherman takes Savannah

Savannah was a leading voice, port and battlefield in a period that tested but ultimately unified the America we know today. William Tecumseh Sherman has come to personify the "devil-incarnate" from the North who was loosed on a Georgia populace that was already weary from four years of war. Who was this man and what were the horrors, real or imagined, that he bestowed on Georgia's citizens as his army moved like a swarm of locusts from Atlanta to Savannah?
