During the past decade, significant advances have taken place in the area of robust control. Unfortunately, many of these developments are scattered in research publications and are accessible only to a select group of experts. Often, the original ideas and the motivations for pursuing a particular path are lost in a maze of mathematical formalism. This book is intended to bring these ideas and techniques to the attention of a wider audience. With this end in view, a step-by-step approach has been adopted, gently guiding the reader through the labyrinths of robust control theory right up to the frontiers in this area. The 'orthogonal' objectives of mathematical rigour and readability have been balanced to provide the reader with a smooth and easy passage through the book. Robust Control of Linear Dynamical Systems may be used as a text book by senior undergraduates and graduate students who have had some earlier exposure to linear system theory. It may also be used for self study by practising engineers interested in acquiring a deeper knowledge of robust controller design.
