the long version
High School champion swimmer Annie Shaw, raised by her aunt and uncle far from the coast of Maine, has no idea why she enjoys anchovy pizza when everyone else munches on pepperoni. She overlooks the fact that her hands and feet morph slightly when she's racing down the swim lane, until her boyfriend thoughtlessly points it out. Fleeing from him, she accidentally ends up on Shelmerton Cove, a place where legends are real. There she discovers she has family that she never knew about, a centuries-old feud which involves that family, and a storyteller who sends her back into the time and space of those tales to learn about her heritage and the consequences of swimming in the ocean on Midsummer Night --does she belong to the land or to the sea?
