the long version

"The Mojave fringe-toed lizard, Uma scoparia, is a California Department of Fish and Game species of special concern and a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) designated sensitive species. U. scopoaria habitat includes sand dunes , sand sheets, and wild dominated transitional sand-vegetation areas in the California Mojave Desert. The United States Marine Corps, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs Division funded a multi-season project to assess pollution density, distribution and habitat use by U. scoporia on lands managed by the Marine Corps as well as nearby lands administered by the BLM. The primary purpose of this study was to begin the collection of data which would conceivably be utilized in any future discussions of Endangered Species Act listing and/or Critical Habitat designations"--Page 8.
