"Cornelia Schleime is a unique artist who always resisted being co-opted, be it early on by the official GDR or subsequently by the art world in the West. As punk lady, filmmaker or performer, with every new stage of life, her art and her way of expressing herself also changes. Her "nuns" and her "pope" series may, at first glance, appear like a deliberate provocation, but in fact it is primarily her uncompromising personal and artistic development that finds pictorial expression in them.
