As regent of a small principality within France, Dowager Grand Duchess Eva de Maubourg feels secure, until Jack Ryder arrives to tell her that her 9-year-old son, who she believes is safe in England, has had strange accidents and that her brother-in-law is making explosives for Napoleon.
