Claes Martenszen Van Rosenvelt (d.1659) arrived in New Amsterdam (New York) in 1648. Claes had at least one son, Nicholas (1658-1742) who, in turn had at least three sons. Little is known about the first son, Nicholas. The third son, Jacobus (1692-1776) was the founder of the Hyde Park Roosevelts from whom Franklin Delano Roosevelt descended. The middle son, Johannes (1689-?) was the founder of the Oyster Bay Roosevelts from whom Theodore Roosevelt (1858-1919) descended.
