The final days of American involvement in the Vietnam War were consumed with the urgent effort to evacuate all American personnel. By some measures, the evacuation was considered a success; the Americans escaped further harm and managed to take nearly 140,000 refugees with them. But those left behind soldiers of the South Vietnamese army, government officials, and their entire families were now targets.
