the long version

Photographer Dominic Simmons explains "In this photographic proposal I document the daily life of the trips and presentations of a group of "small people" lead by a clown named Patorro. Their itinerant life has become rarer in a Mexico in constant change, provoked by globalization. Although in real life they are underestimated, the "enanitos toreros" (small dwarf bullfighters) of Patorro transfigure their height in the numerous bullfighting rings were they perform. For many in the masses they summon, they are heroic figures that give continuity to a tradition of Spanish tradition: the bullfight. For some, their actions are grotesque and provoking: a deliberated satire of a bloody sport, that paradoxically has been given a romantic touch." (Our translation)--P. 59.
