the long version

Preceded (on pp. 11-13) by Lev Kopelev's appeal to Russian writers and journalists to protest against antisemitism in the Soviet Union, surveys the increasing Jew-hatred propagated - since "perestroika" - by various political groups. Jews are defamed by neo-Nazis as well as by neo-Bolsheviks, mostly incited by intellectual circles, especially by writers. Theories of Jewish-Masonic world conspiracy are disseminated and Jews are held responsible for Russian economic misery from the Tsarist regimes until today. Pp. 83-118 contain documents (e.g. a letter by Russian writers, excerpts from a Pamyat pamphlet and from I. Shafarevich's "Russophobia, " and antisemitic caricatures). Pp. 119-223 contain a survey of antisemitism from the 19th century up to Soviet anti-Zionism in the 1960s-70s. Includes an essay by Jochanan Shelliem (pp. 44-50).
