One shoe off

A man is murdered near a sewer project that has torn up the streets of Jordan. And a stroke puts one of the Daily News reporters in the hospital. It's a lousy time for city editor Josie Braun to go chasing a 30-year-old mystery. But she's obsessed with Zelda Machinko, an outspoken newspaper editor that legend says kicked off a shoe as a sign she was snatched by gangsters. Investigative reporter Duke Dukakis thinks Josie is crazy to be stuck in the past, especially when he discovers federal agents are digging into the sewer project.
