Near Cutler's Pass, a derailed train is raided for its $80,000 gold shipment. Five years later in the town of Jeopardy, Clyde Pascoe is shot and killed by an unknown assassin. Sheriff Cyrus Yapp and newspaper editor Will Bullard link Pascoe's death with the Cutler's Pass train raid. They suspect that a newcomer to Jeopardy, Luke Frey, is involved in the murders suddenly occurring in the town ... whilst Luke's interest lies in discovering the identity of the train's mysterious fifth raider.
