Ferdinand Richardt

This catalog illustrates the fifty-four drawings in the exhibition and provides new published information about this little-known 19th century artist who worked in a style and at a period comparable to the American Hudson River School. The views of American life Richardt captured in the United States in the 1850s are unique and have the quality of photography in their detail. Many public collections include the artist's oil-on-canvas paintings, but few hold his drawings which represent his eye-witness views of the scene.
