Security problems and policies in the post-cold war Caribbean
Sobre o livro
This volume brings together contributions by eleven noted specialists, based both in the Caribbean and the metropolitan countries, on peace and security issues in the Caribbean. All chapters draw on recent research on the radically transformed regional situation after the end of the Cold War. Particular emphasis is placed on the formulation of security policies by the most relevant security actors, including external powers present in the region, Caribbean countries and subregional groupings. US, French, British and Canadian policies are examined, as well as the cases of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti and the Commonwealth Caribbean. This discussion is placed in the framework of post-Cold War security attitudes which focus on 'non-traditional' threats, mainly drugs and illegal migration. These new issues, and their regional implications, are analysed in depth in the final part of the volume, but run through most of the chapters.
