North Wakashan Comparative Root List

Outline of the phoneme systems of the four surviving variants of North Wakashan (Heiltsuk, Oowekyala, Haisla and Kwakwala) followed by a discussion of the method for identifying roots and the root list itself which comprises 2648 items. This work contains relatively few Haisla roots and researchers should consult it in conjunction with the Haisla root list at the end of volume 2 of Lincoln & Rath's "Phonology, Dictionary and Listing of Roots and Lexical Derivates of the Haisla Language of Kitlope and Kitimaat, BC" (paper no. 103 in the same Mercury Series).
