Mangement of human resources is meticulously carried out with a view to achieving organisational goals. Current definitions of human resources management however tend to take more cognizance of the industrial rather than the individual goals. The issue of mangement of human resources arises because it is one aspect of the management of the factors of production. Athough the human element is the most important factor, yet it is not easily recognizable amongst the factors. Human resources management can be defined as " a set of functions and activities that will benefit the organization, industies, and the society in a given organizational and environmental setting by applying the human element " The two major purposes of personnel and human resources management are the enhancement of productivity and the improvement of quality of life. This book is set out here to give a vivid description of these functions.
