The central theme of this volume is the fundamental nature of reality in all its aspects. This is exemplified in a variety of topics, from the areas of metaphysics, theory of knowledge, philosophy of religion, aesthetics and the philosophy of man. The twenty-five articles span the Western philosophical tradition, ranging from classical themes in Neoplatonism, through medieval thought (Augustine, Eriugena, and Aquinas) and the work of Malebranche to - in modern times - such major figures as Kant, Heidegger, Max Scheler and Whitehead. This celebratory collection marks the sixty-fifth birthday of Dr Desmond Connell, Archbishop of Dublin and former Professor of Metaphysics at University College Dublin.
