In 1712, two prominent members of the aristocracy, Lord Mohun and the Duke of Hamilton, clashed in a duel that ended both their lives. Stuart society was in uproar, for the duel - the focus of this study of a cynical 18th-century British aristocracy - occurred at a moment of grave political crisis.
