Love My Children: The Autobiography of Rose Butler Browne (1897-1986). African American educator, earned a bachelor's degree at Rhode Island College, earned her master's degree at Rhode Island College and then to Harvard University. In 1939 she became the first black woman to earn a doctoral degree in education. She was devoted to improving education for minority children. As a crusader for black rights, Dr. Browne refused to send students into teaching jobs that continued paying black teachers lower salaries than white teachers. Browne died in 1986 at the age of 89.
