The XVII century is an important spanish period to collect different work arts. The viceroy Santisteban spent twenty years in Italy and he redecorated his palaces of Naples, Madrid an Cocentaina (Alicante) with important masterpieces. He knew many italian painters and artist who worked for him: 83 paintings of Giordano, his best friend in Naples, other paintings of Paolo de Matheis, Angelo Maria Costa,Giusseppe Recco or painters from the XVI century. Tapestries, elegant furnitures, objects made of coral, crystal and silver, sculptures or carpets found a place in Santisteban´s life. We are obliged to mention his family jeweller (2.300 pieces) a fabulous treasure wich shows us how the italian artist worked the silver and gold metal matched with precious stones. Only the Royal Court had more number of jewels. The viceroy Santisteban became an important politician under Carlos II, the last member of Casa de Austria. This doctortal thesis places his figure between the duke of Alcalá, Monterrey, Medina de las torres and Carpio. All of them, famous politicians and collectors of work arts.
